  27.      General Information
  28.  
  29.      1.   Follow the installation instructions for NetWare Lite v1.0
  30.           carefully.  Download Fax document 2501 or FYI.P.6050 for help with
  31.           installing and setting up a network.
  32.  
  33.      2.   The installation procedures will create a \NWLITE directory on your
  34.           C:\ drive.  You need to edit a file called STARTNET.BAT that is
  35.           located in this directory.
  36.  
  37.      3.   Look for the line in STARTNET.BAT that loads the program called
  38.           SHARE.  If you are using MSDOS, change that line to the following:
  39.  
  40.                C:\DOS\SHARE /L:250 /F:10000
  41.  
  42.           If you are using DR DOS, change the line to the following, instead:
  43.  
  44.                C:\DRDOS\SHARE /L:250
  45.  
  46.      4.   The "FILES=" parameter in your CONFIG.SYS should be set as follows
  47.           on both the workstations and the server:

  49.                FILES=250
  50.  
  51.      5.   Obtain the patches that Novell has released for NetWare Lite v1.0. 
  52.           Please acquire Fax Document 2903 or see FYI.P.6087 for more
  53.           information.

  55.      Installing Windowing System Manager and LANPak  (Much of the following
  56.      information was obtained from Computer Associates Limited.  A similar
  57.      document is found on their fax system.)

  60.      1.   Insert WSM DISK 1 in drive A: and type A:INSTALL from the root
  61.           directory to which you are installing.  Answer "yes" to indicate
  62.           that you are installing on a network.  You will be prompted for
  63.           additional disks.
  64.  
  65.      2.   Upon completion of the WSM install, you will be taken to the
  66.           "Install Programs" portion of WSM, at which point you should insert
  67.           the LANPak disk and continue.
  68.  
  69.      3.   When the system prompts you if you are installing on Novell NetWare,
  70.           answer NO.
  71.  
  72.           This is not Novell NetWare.  NetWare Lite is a peer-to-peer network
  73.           that means that it is DOS-based--quite different from NetWare 2.x
  74.           and 3.x.
  75.      4.   Choose "PC-Lan," or if you wish, choose "other," and type NETWARE
  76.           LITE.  The preceding is the most critical step.  If you have already
  77.           installed the LANPak as Novell, you are probably suffering a great
  78.           deal of "Unable to obtain access to...." messages.  Just reinstall
  79.           the LANPak as above.
